The Society for Electro-Acoustic Music in the United States (SEAMUS) is a non-profit national organization founded in 1984. It is dedicated to the art of electro-acoustic music, bringing together composers, performers, and educators to advance this genre. SEAMUS fosters interaction among its members through annual national conferences, juried recording projects, and the publication of the Journal SEAMUS. Its mission is to provide a platform for the exploration and dissemination of electro-acoustic music.
In 2025, SEAMUS will host its National Conference at Purdue University's Department of Music in West Lafayette, Indiana, from March 21 to March 24. The theme of the conference, "Spaces | Places | Traces," will explore how physical and virtual spaces influence music performance, composition, and research. This event will feature concerts, paper presentations, demonstrations, and workshops. The conference is a collaborative effort involving Purdue's Hall of Music, The Arts Federation, the Department of Theatre, the Division of Dance, and the Laboratory for Acoustics and Music at Purdue (LAMP). It will be held at multiple venues across the Purdue campus, including Fowler Hall, The Arts Federation, and Pao Hall.
SEAMUS has issued a call for works, inviting submissions of fixed media compositions, audiovisual works, pieces for performers with electronic elements, installations, paper presentations, and workshops. The submission portal opened on October 2 and will close on November 6, 2024. SEAMUS continues to play an integral role in the development and promotion of electro-acoustic music in the U.S., providing opportunities for artists, scholars, and educators to engage with a broader audience.
